Behind the sounds

Places where fish swim, snakes slither through the undergrowth, birds call through the trees, and the rainforest has its own frequency.

I go out into these places and capture the sounds as they really are. Then I bring them home and shape them through the ears of a musician and sound designer, keeping them grounded in the real world.

There's a difference between downloading a stock sound and going out to capture it. You're not just hearing a recording of nature. You're hearing the way I experience it.

The story

Hey — my name's Matthew, and I created Crystal Creek.

I grew up in North Queensland, surrounded by farmland, creeks, and the rainforest.

As a child when we were down at the creek, I was completely in the present moment. I’d always leave feeling calm.

Over time, I started to realise there was no past or future there—only being fully in it.

That feeling stayed with me.

I started to understand that it wasn’t just the place—it was the way sound and environment could shift how you feel. As a musician, I began capturing and working with those kinds of natural sounds, listening more deeply to the world around me.

Crystal Creek is a daily wellness space built from that idea—designed to help you return to presence through sound, reflection, and stillness.

Can I try it first?

Yes. You get the whole creek free for 7 days. After that it's monthly or yearly, and you can cancel anytime in your Apple settings. Three sounds, the sleep timer and the morning message stay free forever.

Does it work offline?

Yes, completely. Every sound lives on your phone, so planes, camping and bad signal are no problem.

Do I need headphones?

Not for most sounds, though they're lovely with them. For binaural beats, headphones are a must.

Is what I write private?

Yes. Your diary, check-ins and affirmations stay on your phone.
